ASL/Deaf Studies Media Lab (Hall Memorial Building, E-111) Fall 2007 Hours: Mondays 8am - 2pm, Tuesdays 8am - 5pm, Wednesdays 8am -5pm, Thursdays 8am - 9:30am, 12:30pm - 5pm.
The Department of ASL and Deaf Studies is committed to provide undergraduate and graduate students with state-of-the-art equipment for coursework, field research and data analysis in our Multimedia Lab. Our Multimedia Lab offers SmartBoard, LCD projector mounted to the ceiling, TV/DV-Player/VCR, 9 iMacs with built-in iSight (webcams). Software on the iMacs include iPhoto, iMovie, Final Cut Express, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint. The ASL/DST Multimedia Lab also has 8 Canon GL-2 Videocameras, lighting kits, and tripods.
Gallaudet University Archives
Faculty members and students in our program often use the Gallaudet University Archives for research related projects. The Gallaudet University Archives boasts the world's largest collection of historical artifacts, documents and visual materials (including films, slides, and photographs) about deaf people.
Gallaudet University Video Library
The Gallaudet University Video Library has over 200 digitized films and videos online. Videos include series of old films produced by the National Association of the Deaf--the earliest being 1913--a 15-minute narration by Edward Miner Galladuet titled, "The Lorna Doone Country." Other videos include Deaf Mosaic, videos related to Deaf sports, Deaf culture and history. Access to the Gallaudet Video Library is open to the public as well as faculty and students.
History Through Deaf Eyes
History Through Deaf Eyes - This is a Gallaudet University site on the "History Through Deaf Eyes" exhibition that toured to 12 cities and was seen by approximately 415,000 people. The site includes text and many of the photographs from the exhibition. It also has a Deaf history "Further Reading" list that will be helpful to researchers.
Through Deaf Eyes - This PBS site presents the Through Deaf Eyes documentary film. Significant exerpts from the film's companion book, "Through Deaf Eyes: A Photographic History of an American Community" are included, along with biographical information about the filmmakers. The film "shorts" from 6 contributing Deaf filmmakers can be seen in full via the "About the Film" and "The Filmmakers" links.
